Hospital in or near Milwaukee Wisconsin


 

 

Over the past decade, many independent hospitals throughout southeastern Wisconsin have joined integrated health care systems. Below is a listing of each system and its corresponding hospitals. The six hospital systems serving the greater Milwaukee area are Aurora Health Care, Wheaton Franciscan Healthcare, Froedtert & the Medical College of Wisconsin, Columbia St. Mary’s, ProHealth Care, and Children’s Hospital and Health System. These systems are also joined locally by the Clement J. Zablocki Veterans Affairs Medical Center, a government-owned hospital that specializes in providing medical care and services to U.S. veterans.

Founded in 1984, Aurora Health Care is a not-for-profit healthcare provider serving more than 90 communities throughout eastern Wisconsin and northern Illinois. The system employs more than 30,000 caregivers (including 1,500 physicians) across 15 hospitals, 159 clinic sites, and 70 retail pharmacies. Service offerings are comprehensive and include primary care, neurology and neurosurgery, women’s health, orthopedics, and cardiovascular and cancer services. Aurora Health Care is also the largest homecare organization located within the State of Wisconsin.

Children’s Hospital and Health System is comprised of Children’s Hospital of Wisconsin, one of the nation’s top pediatric care facilities, and more than 70 specialty clinics that offer outpatient diagnosis and treatment for pediatric disorders. Serving children located primarily throughout Wisconsin, Michigan and northern Illinois, the health care provider is a partner to the Medical College of Wisconsin and is affiliated with dozens of nursing programs throughout the area. Children’s Hospital and Health System was founded in 1894 and also includes a hospital facility location in Neenah.

With roots that trace back to 1848, Columbia St. Mary’s provides a full range of health and wellness services to communities throughout southeastern Wisconsin. The organization was officially formed in 1995, when St. Mary’s Hospital (the state’s first ever private hospital) merged with Columbia Hospital. Sponsored by Ascension Health and Columbia Health System, Columbia St. Mary’s encompasses four hospitals, more than 60 community clinics, the Columbia College of Nursing, and access to numerous urgent/express care centers. The system is also home to the Columbia St. Mary’s Regional Burn Center, which has served burn victims throughout Wisconsin, upper Michigan and northern Illinois since 1959.

A partnership between Froedtert Health and the Medical College of Wisconsin, this regional health care network includes three hospitals, more than 30 primary care and specialty care health centers and clinics, and an academic medical center and research facility. The organization employs over 250 physicians, and its combined hospital bed count is nearly 800. Furthermore, the Medical College of Wisconsin is the state’s only private medical school and health sciences graduate school and the largest research institution in the Milwaukee metro area.

ProHealth Care is a community-based health care system offering a multitude of services, from fitness and wellness services to primary and hospital care. The organization boasts more than 125 primary care physicians and specialists that practice across 15 ProHealth Care Medical Associates clinics throughout Waukesha County. The organization also includes three local hospitals. An advocate of community health improvement, ProHealth Care also owns and operates West Wood Health & Fitness Center in Pewaukee.
